August 12 & 13
just saw a number of Master Masons receive the 32° and become Masters
of the Royal Secret. As this article went to print we had over 50
signed up for the class.
Each year we have been doing a better job than the last as we keep
reaching for the goal
of 100 candidates. It is a great feeling to meet these Brothers and
discuss with them their
interest in pursuing the further knowledge of Masonry that the Scottish
Rite provides.
I hope that all our new Masters of the Royal Secret continue their
quest as they complete
the Master Craftsman program.
It is never too early to start looking toward the next class, so keep
your involvement
up with your Blue Lodge. Be sure to let your fellow Blue Lodge Brethren
know of our
new Masters of the Royal Secret; and by all means, new Masters share
your experience,
motivations and interest in our additional degrees with the Master
Masons of your Blue
Lodge. Petitions are always available from the office or online via the
website.
For those who have been absent from your Blue Lodge, find an
opportunity to get
back and say “hi.” Check your trestle board for coming events. Many
lodges have social
events that are not involving degrees or meetings. Or, attend another
Lodge’s events—
your fellowship and brotherhood would be welcomed. A number of Lodges
are putting
on weekend breakfasts; some that I am aware of are Natoma #64 (Folsom),
Western
Star #2 (Shasta), and Harding San Juan #579 (Citrus Heights). Others
may have social
meetings outside the Lodge such as a dinner or breakfast group. A good
source for
Masonic events in the Sacramento area is the Masonic Service Bureau at
msb-sac.org.
Once you are signed up they send out a weekly e-mail reminder of coming
events, or
you can look up items yourself on their website.
Our members come from one place, our Blue Lodges. Without strong Blue
Lodges,
we have a weakened base for the Scottish Rite. So support of, and
involvement in them,
is crucial.
